A judge ordered the owners of the Capital Club to pay a $1,000 fine in Columbus, Ohio’s first-ever transgender CRIMINAL discrimination case. Attorneys for Columbus Hospitality LLC, managers of private downtown Capital Club, pleaded no contest in January to a charge of unlawful employment practices against 53-year-old Savanna DeLong. DeLong, who worked as a massage therapist for the club, is in the process of becoming a transsexual. DeLong alleged that the club discriminated against her by not using her services when they found out she was making the transition from being a man to being a woman.
City prosecutors filed charges against Columbus Hospitality LLC and its general manager, Robert Bee, in December, 2012. The defense soon decided against contesting the misdemeanor charges. Bee avoided a possible jail sentence by attending “diversity training.”
