A 6-year-old boy has applied to be called a girl under Argentina’s Gender Identity Law, approved in May 2012.

The act enshrines the right to be identified by name and sex as defined by the individual.

The governor of Buenos Aires, Daniel Scioli, approved the boy’s application to change his name from Manuel on her DNI, the Argentinian identity card, and birth certificate.
