A proposal adding language designed to protect transgender people from housing discrimination is moving to a vote by the Fond du Lac City Council. The Council met for 45 minutes in a workshop session to hear about the anti-discrimination proposal brought forth by Councilman Dan Manning, who is openly gay. There were only a few citizens in attendance in the Legislative Chambers during a session that was largely question-and-answer with city staff. The proposal seeks to add language to the city’s fair housing ordinance that prohibits discrimination on the basis of “gender identity and expression,” without, apparently, defining what that means. The matter is expected to be addressed at Council’s regular meeting November 13, 2013.
