Michael Berghoef @FerrisState (USA)

gay

Michael Berghoef is a Professor of Social Work at Ferris State University and a member of the Alliance of Ferris Employees.  Any employee of Ferris State University who identifies as lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, or queer and any employee who identifies as an ally of LGBTQ people may become a member of the Alliance of Ferris Employees by contacting Michael or others.  Michael recently signed the anti-lesbian petition against the Michigan Womyn’s Music Festival.

Why would any woman feel comfortable contacting a man who endorses lesbophobia?

Query: does signing an anti-lesbian petition violate the Social Worker Code of Ethics?

Social workers should obtain education about and seek to understand the nature of social diversity and oppression with respect to race, ethnicity, national origin, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, marital status, political belief, religion, immigration status, and mental or physical disability.

Social workers should not practice, condone, facilitate, or collaborate with any form of discrimination on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, marital status, political belief, religion, immigration status, or mental or physical disability.

Social workers should act to prevent and eliminate domination of, exploitation of, and discrimination against any person, group, or class on the basis of race, ethnicity, national origin, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, marital status, political belief, religion, immigration status, or mental or physical disability.
